Indiana Watershed Initiative
The Indiana Watershed Initiative (IWI) is pairing watershed scale implementation of winter cover crops and the two-stage ditch in two Indiana watersheds to reduce nutrient loss from fields and improve soil health. ND-ECI researchers are collaborating with a diverse group of partners, including Indiana Soil and Water Conservation Districts, The Nature Conservancy, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, US Geological Survey, Indiana University, and others. The IWI's partnership with producers expand conservation practices while maintaining productive and profitable argiculture operations.
St. Joseph County Parks
St. Joseph County Parks have been a critical partner in the development, construction and on-going operation of the Notre Dame Linked Experimental Ecosystem Facility. ND-LEEF is located within St. Patrick’s County Park which creates an ideal opportunity to translate ND-ECI research to the public. In conjunction with County Park, ND-LEEF offers outreach programming for K-12 students through on-site field trips and for adult learners through programs such as IDNR Master Naturalist and ND-LEEF’s annual Science Sunday.
The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is the world's largest conservation organization. TNC has an unparalleled ability to convene and collaborate with industries, government agencies and other entities to assist with solving societal problems. ND-ECI researchers work directly with TNC staff to identify urgent needed scientific research and then to disseminate the results to stakeholders. Specifically, ND-ECI researchers are working with TNC staff from The Great Lakes Program and the Michigan and Indiana TNC offices.
